Publisher Summary Recent discoveries related to adult neurogenesis suggest that the long-
sought goal of regenerating injured adult brain tissue may be achievable in principle. A
variety of human neurological diseases and rodent models of these diseases—including
stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis—are associated with an increase in the brain's neuroproliferative capacity.
